The Ideal Soil Blend: Potting Soil and Vermiculite
Mix standard potting soil with vermiculite. Potting soil gives the plant the base nutrients it needs to build a stem. Vermiculite is the secret for the roots. It holds onto moisture without letting the soil get soggy.
This blend prevents root rot. Banana plants love water, but they hate sitting in a swamp. The vermiculite creates tiny air pockets in the dirt. This helps the roots grow deeper and stronger.
Preparing the Planting Cups or Beds
Choose a pot with holes in the bottom. Drainage is the most important part of the setup. If the water can’t escape, the banana will just decay.
Fill your pot or garden bed with the soil mix. Dampen the soil with water before you plant. It should feel like a wrung-out sponge. Not too dry, and not dripping wet.
